Mary Church Terrell â€� educator, political activist, and first president of theÌýÌýâ€� was born Sept. 23, 1863, inÌý, Tennessee.Ìý

An 1884 graduate ofÌý United Statesâ€� first college to admit women and among the first to admit students of all races, Terrell was one of the first U.S. women of African descent to graduate from college. She received a master’s degree from Oberlin in 1888.
