Since the beginning (Fall of 1978), we have been supplying books to anyone who believes in the power of the book to teach, as well as heal.

We're convinced that the way to work with children (and adults) is through their hearts as well as their brain. The books that you will find in our catalogs and on this Web site reflect that conviction.

Washington, Missouri (population 10,456) is about 50 miles west of St. Louis, right on the Missouri River. We are located in a beautiful, near century-old renovated power plant (Tibbe Power Company), circa 1904, designed by Theodore Link.

Link was the same architect who designed the spectacular Union Station in St. Louis (once a big train station...now a beautiful shopping complex).

Our building is right on the Missouri River and next to a major Union Pacific east-west rail link. There are four Amtrak trains that stop in Washington every day. And, there are several bed and breakfast places within a few blocks.

Just walk two blocks from our newly renovated train station and you will be here!

Dave Craig, our boss, started the company after receiving his Ph.D. in the spring of 1978 from St. Louis University. He was a high school counselor at the time.

It was his thought that the business would be a good retirement job...but the business grew rapidly. He soon devoted his energies exclusively to the promotion and selling of books to educators.

His energetic wife, Nancy (who helps with the book selection), has been an elementary teacher for over 30 years...and still loves it!
