Finishing the month slightly above average for precipitation, with one of the snowiest Aprils in the past few decades, Flagstaff inched closer to its normal totals for the season as the city’s average temperature for the year slightly dropped.

A total of 13.5 inches of snow was recorded last month, the 24th-most for April and the third-most for April since 2000. Flagstaff had not finished an April with double-digit snowfall since 2012’s 10.4 inches.

The snow in April raised the season’s total to 28.7 inches behind normal after Flagstaff entered the month 37.2 inches below normal. As for precipitation, Flagstaff recorded 1.34 inches in April to raise the season total to 3.14 inches below normal after beginning April 3.58 inches below normal.

Nearly half of April’s precipitation came on just one day. With 0.65 inches of precipitation and 6.5 inches of snow falling on April 18, the totals accounted for 48.5% and 48.1% of the month’s final totals.

The additional precipitation also kept temperatures down during the final half of the month, with no day surpassing the mid-70s temperatures of April 9 to 11. Finishing with an average high of 59.5 for the month, the average high for 2025 dropped from the 11th-highest after March to 16th, and the year’s average temperature dropped from the 14th-highest through three months to 19th-highest through four months.

Flagstaff’s most recent high over 70 was back on April 13.

Temperatures continued to remain low through the first week of May as precipitation arrived on Friday and was expected to continue through Wednesday.
