The opening reception for the new exhibit from Open Doors: Art in Action has been postponed to early April due to winter weather.
The exhibit is called "Ending Gun Violence: Healing Our Souls” and was originally scheduled to open March 7.
The opening reception will now be on Friday, April 4, featuring live music and an original slideshow about art and activism relating to gun violence. Julie Paez, survivor lead for Flagstaff Moms Demand Action, will be the featured speaker.
The exhibit is intended to raise awareness of gun violence through the work of both artists and two prevention organizations -- the Soul Box Project and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. Artists with work in the exhibit include Shelly Payette, Aleena Hubbard and Kari Wehrs.
“Gun violence threatens our most fundamental right: the right to life, according to the event poster. “More than 600 people die every day worldwide, by guns.
The free exhibit will run through May 2, being available to view between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at Epiphany Episcopal Church, 423 N. Beaver Street in Flagstaff.
First Friday receptions will take place 6-8 p.m. on April 4 and May 2 as part of the first Friday ArtWalk, along with Soul Box Creative Workshops.
