The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced it plans to continue lane restrictions on State Route 89A in Oak Creek Canyon through the fall as it continues repair work.
A rockfall in March 2023 resulted in the need for drainage and sediment repairs in Oak Creek Canyon, with SR 89A narrowed to one lane, with alternating northbound and southbound travel between the switchbacks and Oak Creek Vista, located between mileposts 387 to 390.
A temporary traffic signal will remain in place to direct traffic through the work zone and drivers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes to get through the area. Additionally, speeds are reduced in the work zone and a 10-foot vehicle-width restriction will be in place.
Additional full closures of SR 89A could be needed in the future should construction activities require it, and ADOT will provide advanced notice of any complete closure. ADOT and its contractor are working closely with emergency responders to coordinate and maintain access of emergency vehicles and personnel while the restrictions are in place.
