The Flagstaff area got some much-needed snow from the storm that hit the area last week, and another system appears to be in the forecast for this week as well.

According to the National Weather Service in Bellemont, Flagstaff received more than 16 inches of snow between Thursday and Friday, with the bulk falling on Friday -- a record 15.9 inches for March 7. That day was also a record for precipitation at 0.96 inches.

Despite all the fresh powder, the region is still significantly underneath the average for this time of year. The storm nearly doubled the snow total so far this season, bringing Flagstaff to 31.8 inches, but the normal through March 10 is 74.3 inches. Precipitation is similarly behind, with the total of 2.89 inches since Jan. 1 still lagging the average of 4.9 inches.

The forecast for this week calls for a quick-hitting system Tuesday night into Wednesday, though little snow accumulation is expected. The National Weather Service has 3-7 inches of snow listed for Thursday, however, with a 90% chance of more showers that evening.

The winter weather also hit other areas of northern Arizona hard, with some reports listing Williams with nearly 2 feet of snow and Doney Park getting 18 inches. Interstate 40 was closed in both directions because of the storm for several hours Friday night into Saturday morning, all the way from Ash Fork to Winslow.
