Downhill skier Breezy Johnson is under investigation by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency and says she will not race during the case, which could lead to a two-year ban. Johnson posts on social media "out of respect for my fellow racers, I have decided not to compete until the matter is resolved." Johnson said the investigation relates to "whereabouts" rules. They oblige elite athletes to inform anti-doping authorities where they can be found each day to give a sample with no advance notice. Johnson has seven podium finishes in World Cup downhills and placed seventh in the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics.
The U.S. Soccer Federation and Mexico Football Federation submitted a joint bid to host the 2027 Women's World Cup, competing against an expected proposal from Brazil and a joint Germany-Netherlands-Belgium plan. The USSF said the bid envisioned taking advantage of efficiencies from the 2026 men's World Cup, to be co-hosted by the U.S., Mexico and Canada. The U.S. hosted the Women's World Cup in 1991 and 1999. FIFA is to inspect proposed sites in February and the FIFA Congress is to vote on a host in May.

Another issue raised by environmentalists is the early start of the season. American star Mikaela Shiffrin says "I really believe it's time to look at the race schedule to match the environment we have these days."
