No. 6-seeded Coconino beach volleyball lost, 3-2, at third-seeded Arcadia in the Division II state tournament, ending their 2025 season on Wednesday.

Coconino's No. 5 pair with Lucie Whiting and Paisley Rhoton started with a pair of 21-12 wins in both sets, scoring the first point for the Panthers, who finished with an overall record of 13-3. Arcadia’s fours scored the next team point, winning 21-13, 21-12.

At the threes, Coconino's Marley Johnson and Naomi Gray went the distance against Arcadia's Kinsey Hunkins and Sydney Fouts, but the Titans won in a nail-biter, 21-11, 15-21, 16-14.

Arcadia’s No. 2 pair of Brenna Satran and Priya Jain clinched the quarterfinal victory in another close three-set situation over Coconino’s McKenlee Lund and Laurel Cernohous. The Panthers won the first set 21-17, but came up just short, 21-19, in the second. Lund and Cernohous lost the tiebreaker 15-12.

With the match decided, Coconino’s ones of Ava Gray and Lucy Stiegler won, 21-16, 21-15.

Girls tennis

Eagles 9, Wildcats 0

Flagstaff concluded its regular season with a sweep over Willow Canyon on Wednesday at Thorpe Park.

To start, the Eagles were victorious in all three of their doubles flights. Elizabeth Shenouda and Asa Gray won 8-0 on the No. 3 court, Rachel Parker and Josie Shinkle won 8-6 in the No. 2 spot and Annika Didovic and Kaitlyn Barr won 8-3 at the No. 1 flight

Parker, Didovic and Lynneah Birdno all won their singles flights without giving up a single point. Five of the six Eagles' victories in singles were in straight sets.

Flagstaff won the Section Two title this season with a 9-0 record.

The Eagles are slotted at No. 6 in the D-II rankings and have a 13-2 record. Flagstaff is set to host the opening round of the state tournament on Tuesday against Prescott at Thorpe Park at 3 p.m.

Baseball

Warriors 17, Spartans 6

Northland Prep lost its third straight game at home on Wednesday.

Dylan Stoffers, Michael Cary and Blayden Cosper each had one RBI. Cary was 2 for 2, hit a double and scored two runs within the five innings played due to the run rule. Cosper also scored two runs while Gabe Zesiger and Colson Skersick each scored one for the 2A Conference Spartans, who dropped to 6-7 with the loss.

There are two more games of the regular season for No. 35-ranked Northland Prep. It was set to play Greyhills Academy on Friday, before hosting the final home game and regular-season finale on Monday against Round Valley at 4 p.m. at Sinagua Middle School. 

Softball

Elks 19, Spartans 4

In just five innings, No. 15-ranked 2A Northland Prep lost on the road at Round Valley on Thursday.

The Spartans started with a tied first inning, 3-3, but the host scored eight runs in the second inning while holding Northland Prep scoreless until the fifth inning. Round Valley scored four runs in the third and fourth innings as well.

Ryliegh LaFave scored a team-high two runs scored for the Spartans. Wren Gutt-Ohly and Audre Wilson each scored one run. Wilson was 3 for 3, hit a double and had two RBIs.

Northland Prep is scheduled to play its last game of the regular season on Monday at Glendale Prep. In order to qualify for the playoffs, Northland Prep needed to play at least 12 power ranked schools. After losing three games by forfeit earlier this year, they have not played enough schools to qualify.
