After announcing its additions of Walker Timme and Zack Davidson last week, Northern Arizona men's basketball picked up two more transfers in Isaiah Shaw and Traivar Jackson.
Shaw has announced his commitment to Northern Arizona following three seasons with Grand Canyon University and a year, most recently, at Valparaiso. The 6-foot-8 small forward will join the Lumberjacks with two years of eligibility remaining and will wear No. 24.
"We are excited to have Isaiah signed and get him up to Flagstaff. We have known him for a while, having played against him while at GCU and watching him at Valparaiso. He has good size ... and can play at multiple positions. We feel that with his versatility, he will be an immediate and major contributor to our 2025-26 team," Lumberjacks head coach Shane Burcar said.
Shaw went to two high schools: Davidson Academy in Nashville, where he averaged 17.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game and shot 40% from 3-point range; and Phoenix Prep, where he played his final year as a senior.
Appearing in all 33 contests for Valparaiso, Shaw averaged 4.8 points per game for the Beacons while scoring a career high of 15 points against Drake. During Shaw's three-year stint with GCU, he shot 35.6% from beyond the arc and appeared in the 2024 NCAA Tournament victory over St. Mary's.
Isaiah is the son of Dana and Casey Shaw, who both played collegiate basketball for the University of Toledo. Casey was a pick in the 1998 NBA draft, selected by the Philadelphia 76ers, and now serves as an assistant coach for GCU men's basketball following a lengthy professional career. Isaiah is also the older brother to Caleb, who plays for GCU.
Meanwhile, Jackson is a native of Anchorage, Alaska, and will play for the Jacks in his senior season, sporting No. 3, after transfering from Grand Canyon University.
"We are excited to work with Traivar. He can help us, and we believe we can help him," Burcar said. "We wanted to find a veteran that has both produced and has a chip on his shoulder, and he fits that into that description. His rebounding and athleticism stand out, and we are hopeful he will be able to end possessions defensively and extend them on offense. He has played for incredible coaches, and we feel that with his experience he can be an impact player immediately."Â
Jackson played for Pima Community College from 2021 to 2023, where he was named a two-time NJCAA All-American, earning third-team honors in 2021 and second-team honors in 2022 while averaging 18.9 points per game, 7.6 rebounds and 2.2 blocks. Jackson's career high in scoring came against Scottsdale Community College when he dropped 36 points.
Jackson played in just 12 games for GCU in 2024-25, scoring a total of nine points.
He is the son of Kristine and Raynold Jackson, who played college basketball at Alaska-Anchorage and Nevada.
