Making a memory: Indigo Arts Collective goes big with its first benefit event

It is said an elephant never forgets. The popular idiom originated in humans� observation of the world’s largest land mammal and the discovery they recognize members of their herd. When confronted with an unfamiliar elephant, the matriarchs will huddle together to protect their own.

Yet thanks to human intervention—namely ivory poaching and habitat destruction—African elephants are estimated to reach extinction in the wild as soon as 2020. But with World Elephant Day on August 12, one local arts collective is harnessing a bevy of creative skillsets, in partnership with local organizations and with all proceeds supporting the international David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, to reverse elephants� dire circumstances with Big Dreams Elephant Masquerade.
