Ask The Vet: Considerations when adopting an older dog

Ask the Vet

Q: I am considering adopting an older dog, anything I should consider?

A: The process of aging in dogs, while a natural part of their life cycle, brings about a range of physiological and behavioral changes. Understanding these changes is crucial for providing optimal care and ensuring a comfortable and fulfilling senior life for our beloved companions. Generally, smaller breeds tend to live longer than larger breeds, with "senior" status often beginning around seven to ten years of age, and earlier for giant breeds.
