One of Flagstaff’s two Family Dollar locations is closing its doors on Saturday, April 19, as it begins a transition into a Dollar Tree location.

The rebranding of the location at 3494 E. Route 66 begins a few weeks after Dollar Tree announced it would sell Family Dollar to private equity groups Brigade Capital Management and Macellum Capital Management for $1 billion. The divestment, which is anticipated to close during the second quarter of 2025 following the March 26 announcement, comes about a decade after Dollar Tree bought Family Dollar for around $9 billion in 2015.

Multiple requests to Dollar Tree and Family Dollar's media communications regarding the location's transition and it's possible association to the sale were not returned.

Flagstaff’s now lone Family Dollar location remains at 5060 U.S. Highway 89 as Brigade and Macellum are expected to operate the company privately moving forward, according to Dollar Tree Inc. CEO Mike Creedon’s statements in the sale announcement.

Once completed, the new Dollar Tree at 3494 E. Route 66 will join three other locations of the brand in Flagstaff. Currently Dollar Tree has locations on South Plaza Way across the street from Safeway, on East Cedar Avenue in the same plaza as Safeway, and on East Marketplace Drive next to Marshalls and Best Buy.

In March 2024, Dollar Tree announced plans to close roughly 600 Family Dollar stores during the year, as well as another 400 stores between the Family Dollar and Dollar Tree brands in future years. Dollar Tree, however, opened its third Flagstaff location in the middle of 2024 in the shopping center on East Marketplace Drive.
