Welcome back to the crypt, boils and ghouls, for a very special edition of Masters of Brewtality. This month, we’re celebrating the 100th edition of America’s #1 occult-themed craft beer column! You read that right The freaks and geeks down here in the MOB crypt have regurgitated 100 articles over the better part of a decade. We’ve survived at least three editors, the entire publication being sold, a global pandemic and so many other horrors all the while maintaining a craft beer intake capable of downing most trophy games. We can fairly say our mutations have made us strong, and we’re grateful to have survived so many things that would bury a less hearty staff. Looking back over the years, we’ve had a plethora of incredible adventures, drank so many weird and wild beers, ignored so many established standards for what makes a more-better running column and talked to some of the best humans you’ll ever meet.
We took it to a vote and everyone down here agreed that the best things we’ve done were our yearly ghost features on the region’s most haunted bars. We heard a ghost fart at the Asylum bathroom in Jerome and picked up a hitchhiking spook from the Museum Club’s defunct upstairs apartment that knocked pictures off the walls at Flagstaff Tattoo Company the next day and got a ton of freaky stories from employees at the Weatherford, Monte Vista and so many more. But, our absolute favorite thing we’ve done here has been getting a chance to sit down with the brewers in Flagstaff. The folks that rise at the crack of dawn to make the beer that has been a perpetual backdrop to so many lunatic, beautiful nights was inspiring. The passion and dedication that these folks have for this beverage is so under appreciated, and we are blessed to have been able to sip a cold brew and bask in their knowledge. From the bottom of our black hearts, thank you to all of them and thank you to everyone that takes a few moments to pick up a Flag Live and read our lunatic nonsense every month. This has been one of the funnest things we’ve ever done, and it’s been a true honor to give back to the community from which we’ve remorselessly taken so much from.
