Arizona—beloved by many and detested by some—is a state full of hidden gems. While the blistering summer heat in the valley can turn some visitors away from the Grand Canyon state, the mild winter weather draws others in. The valley, which is hugely populated and expanding daily, seems to become a focal point for those on the outside looking in, even though the rest of the state has so much more to offer. While snowbirds flock in during the winter, full-timers make it their mission to explore the rest of the state when temperatures hit that 100 mark. In "Arizona Friend Trips: Stories from the Road" by Lisa Schnebly Heidinger and Julie Morrison, the duo travels in every direction across the state, discovering hidden gems, historical towns and wonders of the world.
With prose and photography by Schnebly Heidinger and poetry by Morrison, the pair details their journeys from the North Rim to Monument Valley, Winslow, Bisbee, Patagonia, Yuma, Lake Havasu, Prescott, Walnut Canyon and many other spots in between. The two authors have very different writing styles and it is amazing to see so many places seen so differently yet similarly—like watching two friends paint the same landscape sprawled out in front of them. Each detail of their travels depicted is comparable, but each friend puts their spin on it and sees each tourist spot through their own unique lens.
