Master Chorale gears up for annual Go for Baroque with George Frideric Handel’s 'Judas Maccabaeus'

People have been telling stories through music for centuries.

During the Renaissance, the opera quickly spread through Europe and because of its popularity, another form of musical storytelling called oratorios emerged. Oratorios are similar to operas, but they do not feature the extravagant costumes and detailed set pieces. In an oratorio, there is little to no interaction between singers, leaving space to focus on the storytelling. In the mid 1700s, George Frideric Handel wrote one of his most popular compilations, “Judas Maccabeus�, as an oratorio.
