APS, city staff detail potential impact of planned outages on Flagstaff water infrastructure

Arizona’s largest electricity provider gave an update on the possibility of planned outages during extreme fire danger at the Flagstaff City Council meeting on Tuesday.

The practice of deliberately deactivating power lines to reduce the possibility of wildfire ignition, known as a public safety power shutoff (PSPS), originated in California and has been adopted by several other western states in recent years. Arizona Public Services (APS) announced that it was prepared to implement shutoffs , but it has not conducted an actual PSPS to date.
