Designated as funding to deter, apprehend, prosecute and detain people charged with drug trafficking, human trafficking and other border-related crimes, the Coconino County Board of Supervisors approved a $1 million award to the sheriff’s office during its Tuesday, Feb. 25, meeting.
Awarded as part of an agreement with the Arizona Department of Public Safety and sourced from the Local Border Support Agreement, the $1 million going to five different agencies in Coconino County is part of $17.2 million in funding with Stopping Arizona’s Fentanyl Epidemic (SAFE) initiative. Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs announced the assistance to local law enforcement agencies across the state on Jan. 15.
