The Kaibab National Forest and Ponderosa Fire District responded to two small wildfires west of Bellemont on Tuesday morning.
The first, dubbed the Prairie Fire, was originally reported in the vicinity of Whispering Pines Ranch south of Interstate 40 at about 3:30 a.m. Ponderosa Fire District Chief Lee Antonides said the Prairie Fire was primarily fueled by grasses but did spread to some timber.
