Gardening Etcetera: Setting a course for foundation planting

365bet体育在线世界杯 we鈥檒l discuss foundation planting, which is defined by Miriam Webster鈥檚 Dictionary as 鈥渁 group of plants used in landscape design to blend a building with its setting and obscure any undesirable features of the foundation.鈥 Now that many of us gardeners are taking a break from our outdoor gardening labors, it鈥檚 a good time to lay out plans for a new landscape, or to simply refresh an existing one.

When we first bought our home, a small handsome spruce was thriving close to our house and sidewalk. At the time I didn鈥檛 know there were such things as dwarf spruce trees, so I anticipated this specimen would become huge and have to be removed in a matter of a few years. Much to my relief, I learned it was a dwarf Alberta spruce, which is quite popular in my neighborhood. At seven feet, it is now full-grown and serves admirably both as an outdoor Christmas tree adorned with colorful lights, and as a pop of green amidst our rather drab-brown winter landscape.
