Letter to the Editor: Ring the doorbell at the Flagstaff Area National Monument's headquarters building

Letters

On May 10 you printed an article regarding Flagstaff Area National Monument's headquarters building. That article shared the building's history (to include its origins in efficiency) as well as sharing that its announced closure had since been rescinded. I want to recognize and thank this community for its outpouring of kindness and support, as well as the administration for allowing the "nerve center" of Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater Volcano and Wupatki national monuments (three of Flagstaff's "City of Seven Wonders" campaign) to continue to serve these national park sites and the people who own them (all of you). One brief correction to the article -- our HQ building (6400 N. Hwy 89, Flagstaff) is indeed open to the public Monday-Friday, but as we are often "in the field," the front door is locked with a doorbell. All are welcome anytime -- just ring the bell and available staff will let you in and provide you with amazing public service (and it is always a privilege to do so). Have a great season enjoying your public lands!

Sincerely,
