Students, judges commemorate Law Day at Coconino County Courthouse

Normally, Coconino County Superior Court judges do not preside over arguments concerning the proper relationship between the federal government and the states. But on Law Day at the county courthouse when local students present mock trials, the rules of procedure become a bit more flexible.

At this year’s Law Day, on Thursday, May 1, students from Mount Elden Middle School and Coconino High School filled the attorneys tables, jury box, benches and witness stands of three courtrooms, arguing a hypothetical lawsuit between several U.S. states and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
