Blackman's bill takes aim at those lying about military affiliation for certain gains

Rep. Walt Blackman reacts angrily Wednesday to opposition to his measure that would make it a felony to misrepresent someone's military honors or veteran status to obtain any benefit.

PHOENIX -- The state House approved a measure Wednesday one lawmaker said would, for the first time ever, make lying by a political candidate a crime.

What would run afoul of the law includes everything from saying they had served to being the recipient of any sort of decoration, medal or badge that was not lawfully earned through military services.
