Camp Navajo Fire Department expands capabilities with new drone

When the Prairie Fire ignited recently southwest of Bellemont, the Camp Navajo Fire Department was quick to deploy its newest piece of equipment: a 33-pound, carbon fiber-framed quadcopter drone capable of providing visual and thermally imaged surveillance.

“Within an hour, we had a request from Ponderosa Fire District for the drone for a reconnaissance mission,� Camp Navajo Fire Chief Tim Irwin said.
