I threw a party for no good reason in March of 2015. Many of my colleagues from NAU came to my house for souffles and wine. Or maybe it was a pastry party where I made fruit pies and vegetarian pies and meat pies. Or maybe it was a fondue party. March 2015 was a long time ago and parties were once plentiful. At this party, a few people lingered into the night. We’d been having too much fun and perhaps, back then, we were less tied to our social media screens. I don’t think I looked at mine all night. But after I washed the glasses and filled the dishwasher, I did check in on Facebook where I saw the state legislature had just passed a budget that cut higher education budgets by $110,000,000.
