Gwen Walz, the nominee for vice-president’s wife, visited Flagstaff yesterday. I was invited because one or two other people suggested that I’d been doing off-work for the campaign. I was totally honored to be asked. I told my mom. My sisters. My friends. Everyone was stoked for me. The event was at 2:00 p.m. The invitees received an email the morning of the event that we needed to arrive not before 1:45 nor after 2:15. I taught until 2:00 but I thought I could make it from NAU to 4th Street in 15 minutes as long as I didn’t hit a train. I did hit a train, but just the tail end of it. A red light stopped me on 4th and 66 but I still had 6 minutes to spare. I pulled into the lot and ran to the door which was guarded by a militia-style policeman, a woman with an earpiece and my friend Nancy, who yelled as I closed my car door, “Nicole! You’re not going to like this.
