Arizona Voices: Wildfires are a serious threat to our communities; active forest management is critical

The forest has always been an essential part of my life. I remember spending time there as a young boy, enjoying it and learning about forestry from my father and grandfather. 365betÌåÓýÔÚÏßÊÀ½ç±, the forest means more than just happy childhood memories, or a career path shaped by generations of loggers in my family. Caring for it and maintaining its health has become my calling and my passion.

As the president Suarez Forestry LLC, I closely monitor weather reports and both long-term and short-term forecasts. Arizona is experiencing a warmer and drier winter than usual due to the ongoing “La Niña pattern. We have received only a small fraction of the usual precipitation, which is very concerning. It should worry all Arizonans because this could lead to a severe fire season that may begin as early as March and last through November.

Devon Suarez is the Suarez Forestry LLC president and a member of HECHO’s Hispanic Conservation Leadership Council.
