Coconino (14-1, 10-0 4A Grand Canyon) softball hosted the first of two crosstown rivalry games against Flagstaff (13-3, 9-2 Grand Canyon) on Monday and won, 3-2, in the extra innings.
The Panthers started out aggressively, scoring two runs in the first inning. Danica Kern led off for Coconino and singled immediately. Destiny Villas was next and walked. They both advanced to second and third base, respectively, after a sacrifice bunt from Sophie Monsman. Later in the first, Kaitlyn Tso hit the ball far into right field and brought Kern and Villas home, earning two RBIs.
